He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward "Eddie" and Martha Olson (Bothum); his brother Stuart; his siblings-in-law, Lavonne Olson, Wilma "Billie" Nelson, Susan Trammel and Kenneth Olsen; and his parents-in-law, Edgar and Ella Nelson.

He is survived by: his wife Phillis "Phiz" Nelson; his daughters, Nancy Osetek (Thomas) and Peggy Jensen (Richard); his grandchildren, Randi Osetek (Dameon Nagel), Toni Sorenson (Darrel), Traci Herka (Jared) and Kael Jensen (Robin); his great grandchildren, Remi Jensen, Kaelyn Jensen, Jace, Cruz Russell and Ryder Herka; his brother Loring Olson (Jinni); and his siblings-in-law, Lois Olsen, Julie Osetek (Dan), James T. Nelson and Allan T. Nelson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
