He was predeceased by: his father Harry Brigston; and his grandparents, Engel, Olga Brigston (Sletten), Joseph and Stella Kraushaar (Jensen).

He is survived by: his mother Helen Brigston (Kraushaar); his children, Alexis, Evan, Heather Brigston (James Harris), Havana, Miya, Arianna and Brooklyn; his stepson Derek Sorenson; his stepgrandson Colin; and the mother of his children Sheryl Sorenson.

After finishing truck driving school, Joe started the foundation "Truckers Supporting Future Truckers" with the goal to provide financial assistance to other students in the program.
