He was predeceased by: his parents, George Long and Ruth Long (Snyder); his parents-in-law, Glenn and Myrt Rusley; his grandson Evan Long; his siblings, Glenn Long, Leo Long and Mary Lou Long; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Rusley, Paul Nelsen, Howard Germanson, Norm Anderson and Richard Rye Sr..
He is survived by: his wife Elaine Rusley; his children, David Jr. and Lisa Koenecke (Greg); his grandchildren, Kayla Koenecke, Mitchell Koenecke (Courtney) and Joel Koenecke (Eleanor); his great grandchildren, Nichole Long (Casey) and Addison Long; his siblings, Bonnie Anderson, Roberta Germanson, Nancy Berg (Bud) and Dennis Long (Mary); and his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Rusley, Pendra Nelsen (Floyd), Janet Werner (Richard) and Donna Rye (Vern).
