He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney Buchanan and Mabel Buchanan (Gullickson); his wife Dorothy Rhoades; and his siblings, Wilbur Buchanan, Arcley Johnson and Arlene Olson.

He is survived by: his children, Ron (Sharon), Paul, Gary (Val) and Laurie Sistek. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
