He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Bartels and Tena Bartels. He is survived by: his brothers, Terry and Richard Bartels; his wife Merry; his children, Russel Bartels Jr. (Rachael), Tonya Grotenhuis (Ryan), Richard Bartels (Sue) and Trisha Assink (Bryan); his grandchildren, Elijah Hays, Collin Grotenhuis (Josilyn), Kayla Newman (Scott), Amber Potter (Ty), Megan Grotenhuis, Abby Bobo, Samantha Assink, Isabel Assink, Olivia Grotenhuis, Zachary Assink, Avary Bartels and Aubree Assink; his great grandchildren, Kayson and Ryder Hays; his siblings, Chet Bartels (Iona), Betty Thomas, Judy Vugteveen (John), Joyce Haveman (Lester), Mary Lamer (Don), John Bartels (Gwen), Shelly Bartels, Hugh Bartels (Shelly) and Helen Patscot (Gordon); and his siblings-in-law, Larry Nienhuis (Arlene), Sharon Lemmen and Debra Riemersma.
