She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Gerard Steele and Josephine Steele (McCullough); her husband John S. Mertke; and her children, Michael Mertke (Don Miller), Erin Green and John G. Mertke. She was also cherished by eight grandchildren; several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
