He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Staten and Lola Mackens; his wife June Mackens; his brothers, Warren, Herbert, Ralf and David Mackens; and his friend Grace Powell.

He is survived by: his sister Judy Mackens; and his sisters-in-law, Wava (Warren), Judy (Herbert), Bonnie (Ralf) and Sharon Mackens (David). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

He was devotedly active in his church, both managing the vegetable gardens and cooking for various charity events.
