He was predeceased by: his wife Winifred McPhail; his son James Atherton; and his parents, Charles McPhail and Margaret McPhail. He is survived by: his daughters, Sue Coffey (James), Jill McDonald (James) and Pam Bogdan (Stephen); and his grandchildren, Bruce Efaw, Amy Stone (Michael), Rachel McDonald, Joshua McDonald and Alex Bogdan (Hannah). He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
