He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Peterson and Thelma Peterson (Byer); his son William Peterson; and his siblings, Calvin Peterson and Mary Wilcox.

He is survived by: his wife Janet Swetnam of Virginia; his children, Janet Peterson (Gary Thornsbury) and Robert Peterson (Jane Hansen); his daughter-in-law Ileen Peterson (Himbaugh); his grandchildren, Nathen Peterson, Ryan and Sidney Peterson (Lint); and his sister-in-law Mary Lou Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore, MI.
