He was predeceased by : his parents, Archie Griffes and Genevieve Griffes; his former life partner Sylvia Young Griffes; his siblings, John (Marge), Melbourne (Mary), Russell, Brandt Young, Shirley Swegles (Fred), Charlotte Hitchcock (Lyman), Maurice Piper (Beth), Bonnie Smith (Robert), Roy Piper and Sue Griffes; and his stepson Kendall Force.
He is survived by : his wife Jean; his children, James, Michael (Louisa), Edward, Keith, Betsy and Susan Simons (Jamie); his brothers, Royal (Jan) and Paul; his sisters-in-law, Pat Piper and Anne Young; and his stepchildren, Kathy Pavlica (Jaime) and Rodney Force (Laurie). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
