He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Barton and Catherine Barton (Gass); his brother Gerald Burgess; and his granddaughter Amber. He is survived by: his wife Emily M. Barton (Perry); his children, Cindy Cooper (James), Sherry White, Richard Barton (Fran), Michael Barton and Deborah Fields; his grandchildren, D. J. White, Jesse White, Jake White, Maggie Mae White, Alex Fields and Emily Fields; and his close friend Onalee. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Veteran's Hospital in Ann Arbor.
