Elin Menk Frietsch Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elin Frietsch, 51 years old, of Whitehall, Michigan, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on March 4, 2025. Elin was a beloved parent, devoted friend, and a warm, honest, caring, and kind person who will be missed by all. She was always a bright and happy soul with the most beautiful smile.

Born in Norway, Elin spent her early years scouting in Mandal, hiking mountains, and even swing dancing. She studied to be a youth minister in the Norwegian Church, and then in 2000, Elin moved to America to work at Lebanon Lutheran Church in Whitehall, Michigan, to be their Youth Education Director, where she then met her husband, Jake. They got married in 2004, and in 2007, they had two beautiful girls, Anna and Elizabeth. Then in 2011, they had their son August.

Elin always had a passion for people having special needs and was an advocate for all those who were underserved. When she was young, she befriended a deaf girl and learned sign language for her, going on to learn both Norwegian and American sign language. Elin simply loved helping people, no matter the circumstance.

Wherever her kids were, Elin would be there to support them and cheer them on. She was always a family-centered person, and her kids knew they could always come to her with anything.

Elin was also a dutiful member and leader in the Scouts of America, encouraging the scouts in every way and making sure they were prepared for any adventure. One of the principles of the Order of the Arrow is cheerfulness. Elin always leads with a smile, even in the most unpredictable events. Along with her love of scouting, she was extremely fond of camping; one of her last wishes was to sit by a campfire again.

Elin leaves behind her devoted spouse, Jake; her beloved children, Elizabeth, Anna, and August; her mother, Diane Menk; and brother, Michael Menk; as well as a circle of treasured friends whose lives she deeply touched.

The visitation will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 AM. Both events will be held at First Lutheran Church, located at 1206 Whitehall Road, Muskegon, MI 49445.

Elin will be greatly missed and her memory will always hold a special place in the hearts of all whose lives she graced by her unconditional love.
