He was predeceased by: his parents, Elton Handy and Erma Handy (Barnhard); his wife Sally Jane Weiden; and his brother-in-law Jim McColl. He is survived by: his great grandchildren, Jane Curtis (Don) of White Cloud and Dan Handy (Christi) of Fremont; his son D. J. Handy (Jessie); his grandchildren, Finnian, Sadie and Luke; his son Derek Handy (Leah); his grandchildren, Ryan and Thomas; his sisters, Linda McColl, Jean Shutts (Bob) and Chris Frederick (Walter); and also, Elizabeth and Emily Curtis. He is also survived by 2 children, 4 grandchildren, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and by many nieces and nephews.
