The memory of Thomas Ob (Westland, Michigan), who passed away on November 30, 2024 at the age of 97, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. He was predeceased by: his mother Ruby Lee Pitts Thomas; and his wife Catherine. He is survived by: his father Benjamin Thomas; his children, Oliver Thomas (Dawn) of Michigan, Oluyemi Thomas, Kenneth Thomas of Michigan, Bobbie Allen of Ohio, Helen Wilson and Diane Onuigbo of Michigan; his sisters, Betty Floyd of Alabama and Merkie Miller of California; and his grandson Eugene Wilson IV. He is also survived by "son" and Eugene embraced as a "father"; fourteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and caring friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home (4670 S Inkster Rd, Dearborn Heights, MI 48125). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. James United Methodist Church (30055 Annapolis Ave, Westland, MI 48186).
Obi Thomas received a Certificate of Recognition in June as "Mister Juneteenth" of 2024 from the Weslyn A. Bennett Foundation.
