He was predeceased by: his parents, Kevin Ritter and Mary Ritter; and his siblings, Tom, Kevin, Jim and Joan.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra; his children, Sarah Williams (Neal) and Dennis "Mike" Ritter (Heather); his grandson Franklin; his great grandchildren, Eliza and Ava; and his siblings, Donna Heath (Lon), Mary "Sue" Ritter, Cecilia Yarber (Dave), Ed Ritter (Jan), Fred Ritter (Sheila), Doug Ritter (Mary Beth) and Maureen Compagnoni (Chuck). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
