He was predeceased by: his parents, Minnie M. Schafer (Gross) and Jack Schafer; his son Brad; his sisters, Rose Schafer, Gertrude "Gertie" Keusch and Liz Tschappat; and his son-in-law Dick Davis.
He is survived by: his wife Enid L. Phenix; his children, Roxann Davis of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Schafer (Dawn) of Mesa, AZ, Annette Schumacher (Dan) of Weidman, Terry Schafer (Jean) of Weidman, Dale Schafer (Becky) of Remus, Mary Pohl (Steve) of Mt. Pleasant, Sandy Wilson (Marty) of Remus, Denise Sharrar (Brian) of Mt. Pleasant and Brian Schafer (Sherri) of Weidman; his brothers, Steve Schafer (Janet) of Weidman and Harry Schafer (Paula Russell) of Weidman; and his parents-in-law, Wendell Phenix (Betty) of Mt. Pleasant, Retha Walters of Vestaburg, Orlie Simon of Remus and Robert Krabill of Lake. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
