She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Barrett and Velma Irene Barrett (Andrews); her former husband Eugene Gordon Ash; her stepson Paul James Ash; her cousin Emma DeCamp; her brothers, Lionel Barrett (Jeannie), Ernie Barrett (Olga), Melvin Barrett (Helen), Floyd Barrett, Stanley Barrett (Mary) and Raymond (Betty); and her brothers-in-law, Charlie Burden and Jim Kunard.
She is survived by: her husband Gilbert Merkel; her children, Susan Lynn Zeinstra (Rod), Gordon Wayne Ash (Mary Jo) and James Edward Ash; her stepson Craig Ash (Barbara); her grandchildren, Jason Zeinstra (Dana), Megan Sager (Brian), Ben Ash (Carrie), Andy Ash (Megan), Grace Hettinger (Zach), Kasandra Berens (Brandon), Kristin Demann (Levi), Brent Ash and Nicki Ash; her great grandchildren, Aidan, Noah, Emma Zeinstra, Grant, Paige Sager, Mackenzie Ash, Drew, Trevor, Hunter, Hadley, Harper Hettinger, Allex, Brady Lane Berens, Lawson Demann, Dakota and Jeremiah Ash; her cousin Ronald DeCamp; and her sisters, Velma Burden and Dorothy Kunard.
