He was predeceased by: his mother Irene VanTuinen; his son Richard VanHetHekke; his grandson Anthony VanHetHekke; and his siblings, Judith Carlon, Deborah Bos and Darryl Carlon.

He is survived by: his children, Melissa VanHetKekke-Smith (Matthew), Jody Thrush (Dale), Daniel Carlon (Jennifer), Christopher Carlon (Erica), Michael Sullivan (Kara) and Rose Mitchell; his siblings, Dayle Lane (Robert) and Donald Carlon (Donna); his sister-in-law Vicki Carlon; and also Virginia Schoonbeck (Ronald). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dennis to Spectrum Health Hospice.
