He was predeceased by: his parents, Burnell George and Mildred Julia Kern (Donahoe); his sister Mary Kern Manning (late Joseph); and his brother-in-law Thomas Kavanagh (late Ann). He is survived by: his children, Patricia Hartman (David) of Harrison Township, MI, Kathleen Kern (Patrick MacVeigh) of Cincinnati, OH, Margaret Merholz (Michael) of Ashland, VA, Edward Kern (Elizabeth) of Leonard, MI and John Scally Kern of Menlo Park, CA.; his grandchildren, Ruth Hartman (Clint Conner), Aurora MacVeigh, Maxwell MacVeigh (Abigail) and Steven Merholz; his great grandchildren, Amelia and Vincent MacVeigh; his brother Thomas Kern (Virginia) of Edina, MN; his cousin Manning; and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
