He was predeceased by: his wife Rosemary; his parents, Marianne and Russell; and his sister Joan. He is survived by: his children, Ronald Hempel, James Sims-Neeley (Rodney), Kim Vanchina (Chris) and Leonard R. Hempel; his nieces and nephews, Chris, Kathy, Susan, Timothy and Bob Socha; and his friend Jen Harneck (Jay). He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 28th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, April 5th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Raymond's Parish Catholic Church (20103 Joann Ave, Detroit, MI 48205). A rosary was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home (32000 Schoenherr Rd, Warren, MI 48088).
