David Alexander Obituary
Mr. David Alexander, age 61, of Vermontville, MI, passed away Monday, December 20th, at Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing, MI.
David was born in Port Smith, VA on August 1, 1960, a son of Betty (Brown) Bennett and Charles Alexander. He was raised in the in the Nashville area and attended local schools graduating from Maple Valley High School in 1979,
Shortly after completing his high school education, David joined the Army National Guard in Charlotte, MI. He began his career as an Artillery Crewman and in 1986 was promoted to NBC NCO in Artillery. After being promoted, David made the decision to pursue a degree in Computer Programing and became a full time student at Argubright Business College. After completing his college education he was promoted to NCO of the 51st Weapons of Mass Destruction Civilian Service Team, where he specialized in surveillance and reconnaissance. During his time serving our country, David was a Unit Supply Specialist, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, & Nuclear Specialist and a Cannon Crew member. His high achievements were recognized with the Commendation, Achievement, Good Conduct, Army Res. Comp ACH, National Defense Service, War on Terrorism, and Armed Forces Service Medals with Gold & Bronze Star. He was also received the Hourglass NCO, Prof, Army Service, USCG Meritorious, and Team Commendation Ribbons. David retired from active duty in 2020 with over 35 years of honorable service to his country
He was the husband of Jerilyn (Wonnacott) Alexander. The couple was married Jan 6th 1979 in Charlotte, MI. at the Charlotte Church of Christ. They began their lives together in the Charlotte area, before establishing their permanent home in Vermontville in 1990.
During the summer months, David and Jeri, enjoyed riding their motorcycle with close friends from the Richland and Augusta areas and was affectionately know as 'Honda Dave'. David was a licensed pilot, and not only did he enjoyed flying, he enjoyed working on his experimental sea plane. He and Jeri enjoyed traveling to air shows and boat shows throughout the midwest. The couple also enjoyed attending the local Native American Pow-Pow's that were held each year at Charlton Park.
David is survived by his beloved wife Jeri, two daughters, Katrina Smith, Kasandra Alexander, his 2 sons, Lee Alexander, Johnathon Alexander, four sisters, Sheila James, Christy Weiler, Amy Givens, ' Willow Roth, 2 brothers, Scott,(Rashi) Alexander, Winston Roth, 7 grandchildren, Caitlyn Smith, Morgan Smith, Jersie Smith, Nala Smith, Donna Coe, Cherriane Coe-Alexanxer, Joshua Lown, and 1 great grand daughter Heaven Harmon.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 28th at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI with Deano Lamphere officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and luncheon immediately following the funeral service at The Nashville Baptist Church.
The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM on Monday, December 27th at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI.
Interment with full military honors provided by the United States Army and the American Legion Post 45 - Hastings at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Eaton Rapids, MI.
