He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee Swartout and Violet Swartout (Pio); his wife Sally Jones; his son Paul E. Swartout II; his siblings, Rachel Knapp, Betty Kelly and Lee Collins Swartout; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Swartout.
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Leland of Coldwater, Cindy Swartout of Coldwater, Wendy Inman (Gene) of Union City, Rick Swartout (Terri) of Union City and David Swartout (Amy) of Union City; his sister Treva Swartout; and his brother-in-law Leslie Knapp of Coldwater. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
