He is survived by: his wife Mira Sati Datta; his daughters, Rita Brown, Sutapa (Sue) and Datta (Dennis Cooper); his grandchildren, Doug Brown (Amy Brown), Sarena Brown, Stephen Brown, Timothy Brown and Michael Brown; and his great grandchild Kyler Indra Brown. He is also survived by his colleagues, friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wayne State University Civil Engineering Department Scholarship fund, in honor of Tapan Datta's passion for civil engineering.
