He was predeceased by: his parents, George Hager and Mildred Hager (Numminen); and his wife Jill Nelson. He is survived by: his daughter Lynette Hager; his stepchildren, Dayne Nelson and Mariah Nelson; his grandchildren, Jacelyn, Deegan and Brooklyn; and his siblings, Karen Ombrello (Jim), Kristine Burgess (Dick), Gary Hager (Ginny) and Mark Hager (Patti). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in Alan's name may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
