He was predeceased by: his parents, Jan Smits and Elizabeth Smits. He is survived by: his wife Lois Smits; his sons, Jan M. Smits VI (Kathleen) of Southlake, TX and Casey R. Smits (Jennifer) of Lake Ann, MI; his sister Elizabeth Henning (Jack) of Dublin, OH; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Andrew, Amelia Smits of Southlake, TX and Adelyn Smits of Lake Ann, MI..
They also loved the COVID FaceTime book club with him "How to Win Friends and Influence People".
