He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth Sayer (Liz); his son Ted Yakes; and his sister Kathryn Green. He is survived by: his children, Linda Felter (Randy), Peggy Biland, Evelyn Vestal, Elizabeth Sayer (Libby), Dorwin T. Sayer and Thomas D. Sayer; and his sister Ellen Sheteron.
