He was predeceased by: his wife Kay; and his son Mark. He is survived by: his husband Larry Hoekstra; his siblings, Verna Crooks (Richard), Thomas Frew (Chris) and Robert Frew (Janet); his daughters, Michelle Frew-Medley and Keren Brinks (Adam); and his grandchildren, Marisa, Ian, Lena, Kayli, Collin, Catherine and Claire. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
