He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Roy McDowell and Gertrude McDowell (Lockhart); his wife Fran Lytle; his children, John McDowell (Cheryl), Robert McDowell (Karen) and Brenda Martin; and his brother Jim McDowell. He was also cherished by 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Parrish Hospice or the Bedford Senior Center.
