He was predeceased by: his parents, Lavern Berns and Hildegarde Berns (Andrews); his siblings, Darrel and Joanie; and his nephew Derek.

He is survived by: his wife Veronica Sue Krajcar; his sons, Christopher Berns of Tecumseh, Aaron Berns of Phoenix and Duane Berns (Crystal) of Clinton; his grandchildren, KateLynne, Travis and Zachary; his great grandchild Elizabeth; and his sister Elaine Eichbauer of Louisville.
