He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Heckert and Amilda Heckert; his stepmother Elfriede Heckert; and his siblings, William Heckert and Clara Heckert.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Gunkel; his sons, Brian Heckert and Todd Heckert (Jeanette Hearn); his grandson Deacon Heckert; and his siblings-in-law, Diana Thomas, Verna Heckert and Ron Burkett. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
