He was predeceased by: his parents, James Akins and Blanche Akins (Glass); his wife Diane Boyd; his son Johnny James Akins; his grandson Travis Gamel; and his siblings, Richard, Denise, Harlin and Jerry.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Akins of St. Joseph, Rodney Akins of St. Joseph, Michele Lawson of Ft. Myers, FL and Melissa Lemmon (Derrick) of Fredericksburg, VA; his grandchildren, Allie (Paul), Josh (Brittany), Sean, Jessica, Aubrey, Ryan, Sarah, Kerry, Brittany and Char; his great grandchildren, Beau, Travis James, Elyse Marie, Derrick, Diana Rose, Amiyah, Ajia, Lucas James, Quinn and Jason James; and his sisters, Jenny Vandewarker (Bob) and Veda Wright.
