He was predeceased by: his former wife Yukiko Van Opynen; his son Richard Scott Van Opynen; and his brother Allen Van Opynen. He is survived by: his parents, Herman Opynen and Margaret Van Opynen (Tallman); his spouse Jacquelyn Reenders Robinson; and his brothers, Robert Van Opynen (Kathy) of Coopersville and Roger Van Opynen (Linda) of Grand Haven. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
