He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Benkert and Mary Benkert (Blindauer); his children, Sally, Shelley Benkert, Janice Benkert, Lawrence and John Benkert; his sisters, Marcella Lasko and Dorothy David; his grandchildren, Jennifer Benkert and Shawn Benkert; and his brothers, Joe, Harold, Raymond, Eugene and Charlie Benkert.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Anne Donner; his children, Loretta Downer (Duane) of Grand Rapids, Diane Kooi of Fruitport, Paul Benkert of Muskegon, Bruce Benkert (Marie) of Fruitport, Bradley Benkert (Sue) of Grand Haven, Scott Benkert (Julie) of Spring Lake and Andrew Benkert (Anne) of Coloma, MI; and his sister Margaret Langlois of Nunica. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
