She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Markel and Mabel Markel (Howell); her siblings, Shirley Beckrow and Thomas Markel, Sr.; and her nephew Thomas Markel, Jr..
She is survived by: her husband Anthony S. Kanicki, Jr.; her daughters, Mary Sue Hooper (George) of South Haven and Michelle Kanicki of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.; her grandchildren, Brianne Hooper of South Haven and Benjamin Hooper of Holland, Michigan.; and her nieces and nephews, David Beckrow (Christine), Wayne Beckrow (Marsha), Jeff Markel (Erin), Ruth Beckrow Felch (Neal), Kris Markel Gerrish (Jim) and Cathy Markel Kavanaugh. She is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
