He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, LeRoy Courter and Katharine Courter (Wickett); his wife Kay White; his children, Lisa, Joe Schodowski, Tamara Fisher of Sheridan, Mike and Toni Courter of Mancelona; his great grandchildren, Kevin, Kendra Battig, Derrick Battig, Melissa Patton, Tristian Schodowski, Katie Lilly (Ayden), Codey Schodowski, Kourtland Nielson, Robert Schodowski, Sydney Hopkins (Charlie), Tristin Fisher, Cole Stearns (Axton), Bryce Fisher, Alissa Emelander, Skyler, Kaylee Courter (Beau), Devin and Amber Courter; his stepchildren, Kenny (Kim Moore), Karmen (Mika Powers), Carla Sue Coats, Kim (Jody Burden) and Kevin (Shonie Moore); and his caregiver Patti Ledger.
