He was predeceased by: his parents, Burdette Brand and Geraldine Brand (Chapman); and his brother Wendell. He is survived by: his sister Kristine; his wife Carol; and his children, Debra, Terri, David, Troy, Jessica, Matt, Ella, Avery, Sarah, Chad, Marcie, Kaylie and Bodee.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kalamazoo Nature Center (7000 N. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49009-6309) or the Nature Conservancy of Michigan (101 East César E. Chávez Ave., Lansing, MI 48906).
