He was predeceased by: his parents, Berle Barrus and Irene Barrus (Hartwick); and his grandson Jake Barrus. He is survived by: his children, James Barrus (Heather Newton), Jason Barrus (Christine) and Jesse Barrus (Lyan); his grandchildren, Jesse and Jayden Barrus; and his siblings, Mike Barrus, Carol Austin (Richard) and Deb Wolf (Chuck).

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
