He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Orlu Richards and Anna Richards (Horstmeyer); his siblings, Nancy Monroe (Rich), Paul Richards (Ruth) and Roger Richards; his wife Carla "Sue" Richards (Underhill); his siblings-in-law, Jane Schwalm (Dale), Robert "Bud" Underhill (Linda) and Peter Underhill (Sheryl); his children, Leanne VanOverbeke (Warren), Mindi Gerzseny (Chris), Gregg Richards and Dante Richards; his foster daughter Noelle Wright; his grandchildren, Nathan Proctor, Rebekah Kelley (Cory), Evan Proctor (Bri), Bruce VanOverbeke, Jacob VanBuren, Zachary Gerzseny and Ashley Gerzseny Andary (Leah); his great grandchildren, Liam Kelley, Rosie Teklinski, Hudson Wetzig and Isabel Proctor; and also Veda.
