Maria Hammer Obituary

HAMMER, MARIA September 22, 2022, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Maria was born in Lipovac, Yugoslavia to Matthias and Elizabeth Wist. Maria was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Ferdinand. She was the oldest of six siblings – sisters Eva (the late Anton), Theresa, and Helen. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph (the late Maria) and sister Rose (the late Ed). Maria was a loving mother to daughters Helga (Joe) Praust and Erika (Mark) Peyton. She was an amazing Oma to Heidi (Mark) Kassab and Robert and Stephanie Peyton. She was preceded in death by her loving grandson Eric Peyton. We know he has been waiting to hug her for so long. Her great grandchildren Danielle, Christopher and Alyssa will miss their Oma so much but were privileged to have spent their lives with the core of our family. Her nephew and god-son Mark Reling made sure she always laughed during his daily visits. She was a member of the Carpathia Club where she loved to dance with her German group. Maria loved to cook, knit, trips to the casino and baking. We will miss the Christmas cookies that she baked for weeks for every family member, neighbors, extended family and even the mailman. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends and all that knew her. When we are sorrowful, look into your heart , and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Visitation Monday from 3-8pm with 6:00pm Scripture Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Funeral Tuesday Instate 9:00am at St. Blase Catholic Church 12151 15 Mile Rd. (btw. Schoenherr & Dodge Park Rds.) until time of Mass at 9:30am. Donations are welcome to the Alzheimer's Association.
