He was predeceased by: his father Paul Deeg; his son Marvin Smith III; and his siblings, Harold Deeg, Selma Schultz, Marge Fifield, Elsa Volz, Walt Deeg, Don Deeg and Gerald Deeg.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Miller; his children, Jennifer Hanser of Las Vegas and Robert James Deeg II of Lapeer; his grandson Owen Hanser; and his sister Shirley Leiterman of Sebewaing.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
