He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Benke and Mary Benke (Hedges). He is survived by: his wife Catherine Carson; his daughter Ashley Carlson (Joshua); his grandson Asher Carlson; and his siblings, Patricia Heyn (Harold) and Mike Benke (Sue Schmidt).

Memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
