He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bernard Griffin Sr. and Lillian Bower (Scutt); his grandson Chace Bentley; and his stepfather Clyde Bower. He is survived by: his children, Michelle Towsley (Shane) of Cortland, Christopher Griffin (Julie) of McGraw, David Griffin of Cortland, Caterina Cook (Joseph) of Sault Ste and Marie; and his brothers, Timothy and Patrick Griffin. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
