He was predeceased by: his parents, Wendell Buckland and Anita Buckland (Johnson). He is survived by: his daughter Katharine "Kate" Buckland of Atlanta, Georgia; his sisters, Karin Buckland-Van Dyke of Houghton and Julie Buckland-Patrick (Rodney) of Irving, Texas; his nephew Andrew Van Dyke of Marquette, Michigan; and his nieces, Sarah Van Dyke-Golus of Milwaukee and Emma Barnes of St. Paul, Minnesota.. He is also survived by brother, and uncle.
