He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Marinus and Wilhelmina; his wife Barbara; his children, Marc (Xiaomin), Leslie Pool, Ron Pool (Cindy Thiel) and Kelly Beck; his grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Andrew, Melissa, Josh, Adam, Tyler, Joel, Katie, Sarah, Mina, Trenton, Claire and Layne; and his sister-in-law Mary Ann Barrett. He was also cherished by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
