He was predeceased by: his parents, Ferris Slates and Elva Slates (Moreland); and his brother Kevin Edward Slates. He is survived by: his son Aaron Slates; his grandson Ethan Slates; and his sisters, Carolyn Lowe (Dale) and Linda Slates. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
