He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Ames and Susan Harte (Anderson); and his sisters, Tracey Starks and Laura Spencer. He is survived by: his wife Laurie; his brothers, Jeffery (Paulette), David, Theodore "Teddy", William "Bill" (Elaine), Johnathan and Patrick; his stepmother Barbara Harte; his mother-in-law Jean Gnagi; his siblings-in-law, Marjorie Mickaels (Robert), Brian Gnagi, Christopher Gnagi (Nancy) and Thomas Starks; his close friend Frank Hammerschmidt; and his pets, Leo, Lulu and Manza.
