He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Smikle and Elsie "Renas" Smikle; his wife Barbara Smikle; his son-in-law David Louder; and his brother-in-law Robert Hart (Patricia Klemm).
He is survived by: his children, Brian Smikle (Debra) and Susan Louder; and his sisters, Betty Hart and Linda Zielke. He is also survived by five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
