He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernestine Betty James Newman and Clarence W. Newman, Sr.; and his brothers, Clarence Newman, Jr. and Gerald Sistrunk. He is survived by: his sister Carmella Jenkins; his former wife Malkia Newman; his nieces and nephews, Darryl Young, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Newman, Daniel James Newman, Ernestine JoAnne Newman and Kristin Newman; his uncles, Layfayette James (Elizabeth), Leroy James and John James; and his cousin Judy El-Amin.
