He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Gerlach and Frieda Gerlach (Froehlich); and his son David Gerlach. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Gerlach (Dinges); his children, Karen Baiers (Kim), Donna Hill (Mark) and Kurt Gerlach (Christine); his siblings, Dale Gerlach (Bonnie) and Ruth Smith; his grandchildren, Grant Baiers (Andrea), Chase Baiers (Julie), Rebecca Baiers, Emily Baiers, Mark Hill (Kala), Nicole Buyce (Josh), Kiel Gerlach, Zachary Gerlach, Jordan Gerlach, Grace Gerlach, Brooke Gerlach, Paige Gerlach and Brock Gerlach; and his great grandchildren, Landon, Henry Baiers, Grayson, Cooper Baiers, Nolan Hill, Collin and Claire Buyce.
