He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Schmitz and Catherine Schmitz (Feldpausch); his wife Sharon Evans; his son Joseph; and his siblings, Agnes Faivor, Frieda Bauer, Stella Kinny, Eletha Schmitz, Stanley, Donald and Richard Schmitz.

He is survived by: his sons, Dennis (Vicki), Gary (Debra) and David (Melissa); his grandchildren, Jacob, Shannon, Joseph, Alex, Logan, Justin P., Gordon, Theresa, Henry and Zoey; and his siblings, Eunice Pung (Clare), Hilary (Marcia), Pete (Marsha) and Maurice (Darlene).
